I meet a lot of people in my line of work - many very interesting - many very successful - and many very talented - that said - I am thrilled and honored to have had the opportunity to meet and interview Big Wave Rider and Mavericks Surf Competition Founder Jeff Clark for CA Living’s Travel Special on Princeton by the Sea, Half Moon Bay - and even more excited to share this interview with you this weekend! Why? well, for one thing - it it all very timely as our CA Living TV Special with Jeff Clark airs Saturday, October 31, 2009 @ 7 PM - the night before the official opening of the Mavericks Contest Season which begins November 1, 2009.
To sum it up - Mavericks Surf Competition is the “Super Bowl” of Big Wave Riding - wherein the best surfers in the world are invited to take on the biggest waves on the planet - which just happen to be in the Princeton by the Sea area of Half Moon Bay, CA. Jeff Clark discovered this “Everest of waves” and founded the Mavericks Surf Competition held annually at Mavericks.
I have never met a more passionate, genuine, and likable person as Jeff Clark - and we had a ton of FUN filming with him at his Mavericks Surf Shop in Half Moon Bay and riding with him on his hand crafted SUP”S - Stand Up Paddle Boards for this show.
You can check out a sneak peek of our interview with Jeff Clark here - which is really cool if you want to see our Prime Time TV feature on him but don’t live in the Bay Area to catch the show …which delivers an intimate look at the man who discovered the biggest wave spot on the planet - Jeff Clark - in “Princeton by the Sea,” Half Moon Bay, California - CA Living’s featured destination this weekend! There are few things more breathtaking than the beauty of California’s expansive coastline, and no better way to see it than on a Bay Aerial Helicopter Tour! While I recommend you experience a helicopter tour with Bay Aerial first hand yourself - definitely check out California Living’s Season 7 show Finale since that’s exactly what we’ve done to show you the sights and get an overview of “Princeton-By-The-Sea” - a phenominal getaway spot on the California’s Coast.
The “sky’s the limit” in this CA Living travel special of the season delivering the “Insider’s Guide” on where to Stay & Play in this “park your car and walk everywhere” Bay Area hotspot - which is a convenient 45 minute drive from anywhere in the Bay Area and a quick 20 minutes from SFO.
Now while the annual Mavericks Surf Competition is usually referred to as being in Half Moon Bay, CA - Mavericks is actually located in Princeton-By-The-Sea” - which was discovered by Big Wave Rider legend and Mavericks Surf Competition Founder Jeff Clark. We interview Jeff Clark at his Mavericks Surf Shop in this show and hear first hand about his unique story of how Mavericks all began. Then - we hit the beach with Clark for a Stand Up Paddle Board session on one of his handcrafted SUP’S and have just a ton of FUN!!! Be sure to catch it all Saturday @ 7 PM!
In Food & Wine - we meet with Paul and Julie Shenkman Co-Owners of Sam’s Chowder House in Half Moon Bay, CA for the inside look at how Sam’s offers both great oceanfront views AND great food - a winning combination that’s hard to beat! We also spotlight the authentic Italian cuisine at Mezza Luna Restaurant in “Princeton by the Sea” - and to top off all the fun and excitement…

We check out the Oceano Hotel & Spa where I indulge in a decadent spa treatment reminiscent of Cleopatra’s famed beauty regimens - and of which I am sure if she were around today would be quite envious of…but I’m not going to give it all away here - you’ll just have to tune in Saturday @ 7 PM on The Bay Area’s TV 50, Comcast Digital 199, and Channel 50 on Direct TV and The Dish to find out more! Enjoy! Aprilanne
Some anniversaries are nothing to celebrate yet important to remember…

While the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake is considered “the World Series of Earthquakes” to devastate the San Francisco Bay Area - in researching the topic of Disaster Preparedness for an INSIDE LOOK TV, LLC TV news production I was told “we’re over due” here in Marin County for the really big one (earthquake wise).
Anniversaries such as today - while are not for celebrating do serve as a somber reminder of the fact that we really don’t know the day nor the time something as devastating as the Quake of ‘89 can hit - and that for the ultimate peace of mind - we should all have an emergency plan in place for our family, pets, and our elderly neighbors who would have a difficult time on their own when faced with a natural disaster.
I produced the “Are We Prepared”" Video which can be found on CA Living’s Community Page - with Marin County Sheriff Bob Doyle and his Office of Emergency Services a few years ago to provide the community with an “Inside Look” at what goes on behind the scenes to keep Marin County safe.
Now - while much of the specifics are related to Marin County - the overall information and disaster preparedness advice is quite timely and valuable to anyone and everyone looking to ‘Be Prepared.” Aprilanne
